It was a mixed bag of results for Central Holmes last week on the softball diamond. The Lady Trojans lost a key division game to Winona Christian, falling 9-8, but then bounced back and beat the Lady Stars 7-5 in a non-division contest at the Bayou Tournament.
Central Holmes lost two other games at the Bayou Tournament, falling 4-3 to Lee Academy and 9-1 to Bayou Academy.
The Lady Trojans also had an 11-1 win over Indianola Academy last week in division play.
Central Holmes was scheduled to host Oak Hill on Tuesday in their only action of the week before they host Carroll on Tuesday, Sept. 3. On Saturday, Sept. 7, the Lady Trojans will host their own tournament.
Winona Christian 9, Central Holmes 8
The Lady Stars overcame a slow start and came back to take a one-run win in division play on Monday.
Central Holmes went up 4-1 in the first inning and added one in the fifth and three in the seventh. After falling behind 4-1 in the first, Winona scored three in the third, one in the fourth and four in the fifth.
Central Holmes outhit Winona 10-8 in the contest. Haley Beckwith was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and three RBIs. Lennie Wood was 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Hope Pierce was 2-for-4. Beckwith, McKinley Ingram and Ashleigh Parkinson each had two stolen bases.
Sara Rawles pitched all seven innings to pick up the win, scattering 10 hits and giving up four earned runs.
Landry Gardner was 4-for-4 with three RBIs while Morgan Bigbee was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Kaylee Polk was 2-for-4 and Aubrey Carr were each 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Carmen Edwards scored two runs and had two RBIs. Kaylee Polk pitched all six innings and gave up nine runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and five walks.
Central Holmes 7, Winona Christian 5
The Lady Trojans started fast and took a 3 1/2 inning non-division contest on Saturday.
Central Holmes scored five runs in the first and two in the second. Winona scored one in the first, two in the second and third innings.
Each team had seven hits in the contest. Caylon Marlow signed and had two RBIs while Ashleigh Parkinson singled and score two runs. Lennie Wood singled and Sara Rawles each singled drove in a run while Hope Pierce singled and scored. McKinley Ingram also singled.
Allie Rawles pitched all three innings and gave up five earned runs on seven hits.
Kaylee Polk and Morgan Bigbee were 2-for-2 with two runs scored while Carmen Edwards and Landry Gardner each had two RBIs as Gardner had a double.
Aubrey Carr pitched all four innings and gave up five runs on seven hits.
Lee Academy 4, Central Holmes 3
Lee scored two runs in the fourth to take a time-limit win on Saturday at the Bayou tournament.
Central Holmes scored two in the first and one in the fourth while Lee scored one in the second and third innings and finished off with two in the fourth.
Central Holmes managed just three hits as Kaylee Polk tripled and scored. Aubrey Carr singled, drove in Polk and scored a run. Addie Burrell also singled and scored.
Polk pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up four runs, only one earned and struck out six.
Bayou Academy 9, Central Holmes 1
The Lady Trojans fell to eventual tournament champion Bayou in pool play on Saturday.
