Central Holmes Christian School and Winona Christian School are set to meet in a crucial district showdown in Lexington on Friday night at 7.
The Trojans are 2-1 on the season after losing to Park Place 41-17 to start the year. The Trojans then beat East Rankin 35-0 and Ethel 42-7 last week. Winona is 2-0 on the season with wins over French Camp and Winston Academy.
“It’s a big game for us, a big game for our school,” said CHCS head coach Jim Crowder. “They are a great opponent with a great coaching staff. It will be a big week and we are looking forward to it. It looks like they are throwing it a little more than they have in the past. The quarterback threw it like 40 times last year in JV. He’s a natural quarterback and is going to be really good. They are big and physical and have athletes to go with it.”
“It’s a humongous game for week three,” WCS head coach Junior Graham said. “They may have the best offensive lineman in this league and he plays hard every down. They also return the offensive player for the year in this district. He’s a special player. They are getting more and more confident in what they are doing. I think they are very similar to us in the fact that we both run power and both throw play action. We are really mirror images of each other.”
Winona won last year’s game 20-12.
