The McAdams girls basketball season came to an end with a 60-27 loss to Bay Springs in the second round of the 1A tournament.
“It was a hostile environment. We had never played in an environment like that before.” coach Ashley Brown said of the road loss. “Hopefully next year somehow, I don't know how, I can get them to block out the fans and just play basket ball.”
McAdams kept it close, trailing 11-8 after one quarter before Bay Springs pulled away for a 32-17 halftime lead. The Lady Bulldogs were led by Kenady Cross with nine points and Samaria Evans with eight.
Five-four sophomore Zaria Keyes scored 25 points for Bay Springs.
The loss ended a strong late season for McAdams. The Lady Bulldogs entered the Region 6-1A tournament as the fourth seed, but emerged as the runnerup with a 55-37 semifinal victory over top seed Sebastopol. McAdams opened the playoffs with a 62-26 victory over Richton.
McAdams is a young team that will return most of the key players next season. There will be a summer program and Brown hopes her player will be able to attend a camp.
Bay Springs was undefeated in 7-1A and has outscored two playoff teams 121-46 with an opening round 61-19 win over West Tallahatchie. But Brown does not consider Bay Springs the 1A favorite.
She gave that honor to Ingomar, the top ranked 1A team with a 34-1 record. “They're very organized, very fundamental.”
