The last remnants of the Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital were officially dissolved Monday morning.
The Attala County Supervisors officially dissolved Board of Trustees for the former hospital in an attempt to oversee the bond program.
The Montfort Jones Hospital was taken over by Baptist Health Systems last year, but the county is still on the hook for over $6 million in bond payments as part of the county agreement with Baptist. The bond was for the renovation and expansion of the hospital with payments lasting through the term of the county agreement with Baptist.
“A board has to be in place to make the payments,” county attorney Scott Pickle said. “This board will have zero control on how they (Baptist) administer health care or how they run their hospital. It is strictly about the financing that we are still responsible for. They (Baptist) pay the lease payments and we pay the bond.”
In other action the Board of Supervisors:
• agreed to seek bids for solid waste collection and disposal services;
• approved sheriff Tim Nail’s request to purchase a new police car with money paid to the county from a drug seize;
• tabled a request for a bus turnaround;
• approved the payment of a $170.56 fee for PCORI;
• approved a bid of $220 to fix broken chairs at coliseum.
