An Ethel High School senior has been named one of the top 16 student athletes in Mississippi.
Sage Graham was recognized by the Attala County School District Board at the Monday night meeting as winner of the Lindy Callahan Scholarship. He was presented a $1,500 scholarship at a luncheon held in Jackson with the award’s namesake Hall of Fame retired Gulfport athletic director Lindy Gallahan in attendance.
Supt. Bryan Weaver and board members congratulated Graham for his athletic and scholastic accomplishments and for the recognition it brings to the school district.
Weaver outlined a schedule of events for the last weeks of the school year including awards day, athletic banquets and other events.
The school year will climax with graduations on May 20 at 6 p.m. at Ethel High School and at McAdams High School at 8 p.m. May 19 has been named a 60 percent day of attendance and May 20 to be used as a day previously designated as a snow day.
In 16 section matters, the board negotiated a 25-year residential lease with Lamont Armstead and approved a 30-day extension for payment on a lease held by Mississippi Public Broadcasting. Approval was also granted to advertise 11 hunting and fishing leases.
In personnel matters resignations were accepted for Scott Walters, Wilfred Hill, Kimberly Mitchell, Lacey Schmidt, Ross Robinson and Tina McCuller. Ashley Greer-Nolden was hired as an assistant teacher at Long Creek.
The board gave its approval to accept a $1,000 donation from the Long Creek Elementary School PTO to be applied to the gymnasium air conditioning project.
Next meeting of the board will be June 7 and a second meeting is scheduled for June 27 to close the fiscal year.
