The Kosciusko Police Department recently hired two new police officers.
Patrolman Toweeka Ferguson, 21, was born and raised in Kosciusko, where she graduated from Kosciusko High School.
“Honestly, my cousin Kenny Barron inspired me,” she said, when asked what drew her toward a career in law enforcement. Barron, currently a Mississippi state trooper, is a former KPD officer.
Keldarrius Taylor, 24, is a Yazoo City native and resident, as well as a graduate of Yazoo City High School.
“I always had a passion for it,” Taylor said, when asked about his new career.
He said that as a child in Yazoo City he developed a sense that “some things needed to be changed.” Applying for and accepting a position with KPD is a direct result of Taylor’s long-held desire to affect positive change within a community.
Ferguson and Taylor’s date of hire was July 5.
