The Barksdale Reading Institute in collaboration with Lower Elementary School will present a Spring Parent Academy with the offer of five workshops. They are scheduled from 5-6:30 p.m. on Mondays January 23, February 27, March 27, April 24 and May 15.
Parents or guardians of preschool childlren who will be entering kindergarten at Lower Elementary School in the fall of 2017 are urged to attend.
The series of interactive workshops are designed to help parents prepare their childlren to successfully begin kindergarten. The workshops will help parents to identify areas that their childlren may need extra support and give materials and activities that they can use at home to help prepare their children.
“We are excited to be able to see the involvement the parents will have with their pre-K students. We feel this is going to give them a jump,” said Principal Michelle Nowell. She said great progress is noted among pre-K students currently enrolled and feels that parent involvement will provide added advantages.
All materials will be provided by Parent Academy. Childcare and snacks will be provided for participants. All parents participating will be entered to win a door prize at each session. Each family that takes part in all five sessions of the Academy will be eligible to receive a reward in May.
