The Dr. Martin Luther King 19th Annual Image Award Banquet was held on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at the Kosciusko High School Commons.
The 2017 Image Award for Community Patriotism was presented to Martin Roby.
Roby is a 23-year veteran police officer, serving as Chief of Police for the city of Lexington, the Attala County Sheriff Department and the Kosciusko Police Department. He holds membership with the Chief of Police Association, Tactical Officers Association, NAACP, American Legion and Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Roby is a volunteer security guard for the Oprah Winfrey Boys and Girls Club, as well speaker to local organizations promoting drug awareness and police relations.
Sara Boyd, Randy Fuller and Kosciusko chief of Police Herbert Dew shared inspiring words about his career in law enforcement, his family life and his community relations.
Lighthouse Awards were presented to Maudie Benton in the area of education, Jeffrey Woods for political involvement and Corvan Greer for community service.
Entertainment was provided by Kristiania Allen and family. Willie Alice Kern served as Mistress of Ceremony. Charlotte F. Miller served as chair the Image Award Banquet. Other program participants included Dr. Marvin K, Myles of Christian Liberty M.B. Church and Dr. Hercules Lacey of True Vine M.B. Church.
