Now in its 48th year, the Natchez Trace Festival has developed into one of the top annual events in the state and a hallmark of Kosciusko.
The event, which is chaired by Amie Rawson for 2017, celebrates both the community and the historic Natchez Trace. Organizers expect this year’s festival on April 29 to be bigger and better than ever.
“The festival just seems to expand every year as we continue to make it a fun, family-oriented event,” Rawson said.
New to this year’s festival includes the return of the dessert theater the Thursday before the event.
The event will be hosted by the Kosciusko Junior High drama team.
The festival will also see an expansion to one of its most popular attractions… Moomba. Moomba, sponsored by Citizens National Bank, has traditionally aimed to be a venue for family fun. It provides children an amusing outlet with inflatables, face painting, toys and various games.
“We will have some new rides added to Moomba along with the return of a petting zoo to the Moomba area,” Rawson added.
Rawson’s favorite part of the festival includes the wide assortment of food options.
“We have some new vendors this year with some coming from as far as Florida,” Rawson said. “You can get anything from a fruity drink to a shark on a stick.”
Other popular attractions of the festival will return including Gasoline Alley, the 5K and fun run along with the Miss Natchez Trace Pageant.
An insurance agent at State Farm Insurance for 18 years, Rawson has served with many different organizations around the community. She is a graduate of Holmes Community College and Mississippi State University along with being a life member in Junior Auxiliary and an active member of the Kosciusko Exchange Club.
The kickoff for the 48th annual Natchez Trace Festival is set for April 7 with festival days on April 28-29.
T-shirts and posters for the event are available for purchase at the Kosciusko Attala Partnership office, located at 101 N. Natchez Street.
