The Kosciusko Police Department has hired two new officers.
Officer Jerry Erving is a lifelong Attala County resident and is the former owner of Clipper City barber shop. He previously worked for the Attala
County Sheriff’s Department.
“Police work is just something I’ve wanted to do my whole life,” Erving said.
His interest in the field was piqued when he was a barber and heard stories from officers who came into his shop. Erving credits former Attala County Sheriff William Lee for giving him his first opportunity.
Though Officer Elizabeth Miller was born in Tuscaloosa and recently spent almost five years serving in the Atlanta Police Department in Georgia, she feels a strong connection to Kosciusko.
“My family lives here (in Attala County),” she said. “So, every summer, weekend and holiday I was here helping my family,” Miller said.
Miller’s family farm grows vegetables and raises cattle.
“I gained a lot of law enforcement experience in Atlanta, and I wanted to put all that knowledge to work in the community that taught me about honor, integrity and hard work,” she said.
