A drug sting operation conducted by the Attala County Sheriff’s Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics over a period of six months has resulted in five arrests with others expected to be made, according to Sheriff Tim Nail.
In addition to the arrests, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Dwight “Twin” Martin, 37, of McCool wanted on five counts for the sale of methamphetamines. Sheriff Nail said anyone having information about his whereabouts is asked to contact authorities.
Those arrested and indicted by the grand jury on Aug. 12 are three Ethel residents Terrance Holman, 44, sale of meth; Jeremy Edwards, 31, Rico Cooper, 29, six counts sale of meth; Melvin Cook, 61, of Kosciusko and Lelmers Meeks, 72, sale of controlled substance.
Sheriff Nail gave credit to much work in the sting operation to Agent Lee Tartt with the Mississippi Narcotics Bureau who died in February during a raid in Tishomingo County. He expressed appreciation for his work and sympathy to the Tartt family in his death.
Other recent arrests made were on Aug. 6, Jabaria Gilbert, 23, driving with no license, no insurance and possession of controlled substance; Craig Mitchell, 45, of Weir, DUI, no insurance, suspended license; Aug. 9, Preston Gebringer, 25, malicious mischief; Aug. 12, Demerick Guyton, 21, possession of crack cocaine; Aug. 12,Karlandus Gilbert, 23, statutory rape, molestation of child, sexual battery of child under 14 years; Aug. 13, Jared Douglas, 23, domestic violence; Aug. 13, Timothy Berry, 19, pettit larceny.
Dewey Horne, 61, of Kosciusko has been released from jail on a $150,000 bond following his arrest for sexual battery of a child under 14.
On Aug. 13 at a check point conducted by the Mississippi Highway Patrol, resulted in arrests of three for DUI, two for suspended license, two for possession of marijuana and other violations.
