Dr. Chancey Fort, Superintendent Billy Ellzey, and special guest speaker Kiana Davis highlighted how counselors and other educators can change the lives of the children they interact with as part of a celebration of National Counselors Week Monday night.
Davis told a compelling story of a difficult childhood that was turned around, in part, by a counselor who believed in her, leading her to dream big, eventually attaining full scholarship to Barnard College.
Ellzey recalled a young man he met while working as a school principal for the first time. With Ellzey taking it upon himself to make sure the young at-risk man made it to school most days, the boy did graduate.
“We need to tell these children, ‘No matter what you are going through, there is sunshine at the end of the tunnel,’” Fort said.
