Impact Educational Group has been working with the Kosciusko School District on a strategic planning effort. Staff from the organization delivered a preliminary glimpse at what a 16-member community committee has developed thus far. The committee includes school and non-school individuals, as well as four students.
The group initially met Nov. 1 and developed, by concensus, a list of core beliefs and a mission statement. Surveys were also gathered from parents, students, faculty and community members who are not parents.
The 16-member committee developed seven core beliefs they believe should guide all decisions:
- The education process includes school, family and community;
- Our schools will prepare students for a purpose-driven life;
- A safe, positive school cutlure will instill pride;
- Everyone is a teacher;
- Relationships matter;
- Highly effective teachers are essential;
- Every student deserves a quality education.
Further work led the group to develop a mission statement for the district.
“The Kosciusko School District, in partnership with families and community, will build relationships and provide a quality education to empower students to become productive citizens,” it reads.
The group also identified five goal areas to guide planning:
Communication - Effectively and actively communicate positive opportunities that are happening within the district;
Create productive citizens - Create college and career ready students and ensure that curriculum is aligned pre-K through high school;
Positive relationships - Teachers and students should have positive relationships;
Cultural understanding - Create positive cultural understanding among diverse groups;
Competition - Retain students and educators since longevity of teachers encourages academic achievement.
From these goal areas, goal statements and strategies will be developed in order to set the stage for action plans.
The board will then consider the full plan for implementation.
