Two officers with the Kosciusko Police Department were promoted last week by the Board of Aldermen.
Danny Groves, a 14-year veteran was promoted to captain, while Charles Pender was promoted to lieutenant after three years with the department.
“Both these guys do a great job and I feel they will fit well in their new roles,” Police Chief Herbert Dew said.
The department also got the addition of a new officer with Dedtrick Brown returning as a full-time officer.
In other action the aldermen approved a change in the zoning ordinance to allow for an insurance agency to be placed at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Drive and Jefferson Street. The zone was switched from residential to commercial.
Other action taken by the aldermen include
• receiving donations from Walmart and Dixie Youth Boys and Girls;
• approved a 1-year renewal of a trash contract with Waste Management;
• heard a request from members of the Oprah Winfrey Boys and Girls Club for an increase in funding.
