New police cars might be added to the Kosciusko police force.
The Kosciusko Board of Alderman gave clearance to apply for a USDA rural grant last Tuesday that could help the city buy three new cars for the Kosciusko Police Department.
“The chief (Herbert Dew) has been in contact with the USDA for a while to help us purchase these new cars,” Mayor Jimmy Cockroft said. “We can virtually get three cars for the price of two. It would be a good deal if we can get the funding approved.”
The USDA will provide up to 65 percent of the funding, with the city responsible for the other 45.
In other business the aldermen approved the hiring of two new police officers. Josh Pinkard was hired as a full-time officer, while Jason Blaylock was made a part-time officer.
They also accepted resignations police captain Bran Cole and officer Matt Ward.
The aldermen also:
• approved hiring Terracon for an engineering assessment on city land;
• approved a change order from a community development block grant project saving the city approximately $15,000;
• approved a resolution to honor the late John Sullivan, a former alderman and educator.
