“A Step Back in Time” to feature historic women
Kosciusko Main Street is bringing “A Step Back in Time” with a walking tour around the courthouse square on Thursday, Sept. 29, beginning at 6 p.m.
Dressed in costumes, impersonations will be given by eight women who were prominent in business and social circles telling about the town in the early to mid-1900s. They will give stories of their lives and their involvement in the community and schools.
“A Step Back in Time” was held last year under the sponsorship of Main Street. Director G.G. Holmes said its success has prompted organizers to repeat the event with women giving stories.
The cast is listed for the two presentations to be featured on each side of the square.
East side
Judi Bell portraying Mrs. Frank Rutherford will give her story of the decision she made from the two choices she had following the death of her husband; Sue Dorrill will give the motto and accomplishments of Mrs. E.C. Coleman.
North Side
Andra Mooney will relate the trials Miss Alta Burchfield endured with her becoming the first woman pharmacist in Kosciusko; Terry Jones will tell how Mrs. W.C. (Annie Lou) Thompson, the first home demonstration agent in the county, let no challenge get the better of her.
West side
Sara Cheek as Miss Ellen McNulty will tell of the trials and joys of a school teacher; Hollee Casey as Miss Eva Webb will relate how she and two of her friends founded the Delta Gamma Sorority.
South side
Kay Dawson as Miss Edith Beckham will tell of her experiences as a seamstress and her lack of ability to never say no; Ann Windham, portraying Mrs. W. H. Turner, will relate her experiences of traveling to St. Louis to purchase new merchandise.
Tours will begin on Jackson Street. Water stations and chairs will be spaced at intervals around the square. Kosciusko Junior High School drama students under the direction of Laura Leigh Adams will assist in conducting the tour.
Following the tour refreshments will be served in the courthouse. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at the Kosciusko-Attala Partnership (KAP) office and at the Pocket Park on East Jefferson Street the night of the event.
