The City of Kosciusko is joining other communities across the state celebrating the Mississippi bicentennial.
It all started Friday with the City of Kosciusko receiving the bicentennial banner that is being flown across the state to celebrate the year-long event. The flag was donated by the MEC and Atmos Energy.
MEC president Blake Wilson said the banner is not intended to replace the state flag that has been in use since 1894. Wilson said the bicentennial banner could be flown along with the state or American flags
The banner has three wide horizontal stripes — blue, white and red. The state seal is in the center. To the left of the seal are the words "Established 1817," and to the right are, "2017 Bicentennial."
