The Kosciusko Board of Aldermen has set a public budget hearing for September 3 during its most recent meeting on Tuesday, August 6.
Sandy McBride presented the 2019-20 Kosciusko Schools budget to the board. The district budget remains at 51.4 mils, which has had no increase since 2008. The board approved that budget.
The board voted to clear unclean property at 110 W. South St. The board also voted to give the renter at 310 W. Jefferson until the Sept. 3 meeting to clear his property due to his ongoing health issues. It also voted to continue the vote on 314 Goodman St. until Aug. 20. The board also voted to add the charges for clearing unclean properties to the tax rolls of the various property owners.
Gardner Engineering was approved as the engineer for the repaving of the Court Square. The board also signed onto a Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) grant agreement which will allow citizens with old tires to dispose of to do so at the city barn.
Approval was also granted to advertise for hay cutting at the industrial park.
The board approved Sherika Higgins to set up a Big Bro and Sis Snack Shop food trailer a few days a week in the Renasant Bank parking lot.
The board voted to close the Splash Pad at Jason Niles Park, unless it is rented for use, now that school is back in session.
Travel was granted to Liz Peteet for the MS911 fall meeting in Tunica on Oct. 7-9, and to Howard Sharkey for the MWPCOA short course in Biloxi on Sept. 8-12. Alderman Kyle announced that the small town conference is scheduled for Oct. 17-18 in Tupelo.
In other business, Aaron Smith was promoted to full time at the Cemetery Department and Mario Murray was promoted to full time at the Waste Water Dept. Toward the end of the meeting, the board went into executive session to discuss a personnel matter. They then returned to regular session at which time they rehired Robert Young for the Street Department.
After discussion of a possible new dangerous dog ordinance, the board decided to take no action until, at earliest, the next board meeting.
