Gracie Williams knows how important it is to give back. A number of years ago, she was the recipient of lots of love and prayers from the entire community with the “Prayers for Gracie” initiative.
A patient at Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital, Williams was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 6. After surgery and a month-long hospitalization at age 6, followed by radiation treatments when she was in the sixth grade, she been given a clean bill of health — despite still having the brain tumor. She continues to follow up yearly with her doctors.
Williams is now taking up donations for the hospital that got her to this point.
“That was my hospital when I was a child, and I wanted to do something to help,” she said.
To that end, she has started a “Give Back to Batson” fundraiser, and she hopes to raise awareness of how special a place Batson is. Those who want to help can call her at 662-582-5720.
Now, the Kosciusko High School junior who works at Attala Corporate Day Care also makes bows, jewelry and other items that she sells on the side.
On a recent cloudy day, Williams had her wares set up on the square in front of Super 10.
“I hope the rain holds off this morning!” Williams said. “Super 10 has been good to allow me to set up here.”
As for her future, Williams has a definite dream in mind.
“I hope someday to have my own boutique. In addition to bows and accessories, I also do woodworking and would love to have a place to sell my creations,” she said.
