More than 125 Attala County residents, including 25 members of the Kosciusko Mayor’s Youth Council, worked together Saturday to gather 2,500 bags of trash from area highways and roadways that had become an eyesore.
Attala County resident Chip Hawkins created a facebook group to encourage locals and assign work areas to groups in conjunction with the city’s annual cleanup efforts.
The groups cleared Highways 35, 12 and 19, as well as the bypass.
The Mayor’s Youth Council volunteers also painted children’s equipment at Aponaug Park. Mayor Jimmy Cockroft is now seeking members for a Keep Kosciusko Beautiful Committee.
Pictured, team leader Bubba Mullen jokes around with an old wooden waterski one young man found during the cleanup. Participants more than filled a 40-yard dumpster and left half the bags along the roads for MDOT to pick up.
