Baptist Medical Center Attala in Kosciusko is marking its first year of serving the community.
A reception was held at the hospital on last week, where community members, employees, physicians and officials from Baptist Health Systems gathered together for an evening of celebration for the hospital that was taken over by Baptist Health Systems in Jackson in June, 2015. Baptist Health Systems took over the hospital, that was founded in 1938, after Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital fell on hard financial times in 2014.
“On June 1, 2015, Baptist entered into an agreement with the Attala County Board of Supervisors to lease and fully operate the hospital,” said Baptist Health Systems Chief Executive Officer Chris Anderson. “Our team was here on that day to welcome everyone to the Baptist family. We believe and hope this community believes we have provided core services to this area to foster its medical needs."
As part of Baptist’s long-term mission and vision to offer affordable and accessible healthcare in Attala County, Baptist Attala operates as a 25-bed critical access hospital and has continued to provide the essential services that were previously offered in the facility. Over the past six years the hospital has also undergone extensive renovations, including a new Emergency Room, a two-story hospital addition with medical and surgical beds, a Critical Care step-down unit, two Operating Rooms and two Endoscopy Rooms.
Baptist Attala offers several outpatient specialty services including endoscopy, general surgery evaluation, podiatry and wound care, in addition to operating a new primary care clinic. Baptist Medical Clinic | Kosciusko is located on the west side of the hospital and is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm. Clinic providers include Kathy Lawrence, CFNP, and Melinda Meacham, CFNP.
“At the center of Baptist Medical Center Attala’s first year is a lot of hard work all aimed at one thing: continuing to provide our community with hospital and healthcare services that keep our friends and neighbors healthy and give them something to be proud of,” added Baptist Attala CEO John Dawson. “That’s not something we take for granted, and we will continue—year after year—to work hard, as leaders in healthcare and followers in faith—to be Attala County’s trusted community hospital."
Baptist Health Systems also operates critical access hospitals in Leake and Yazoo county.
