Kosciusko native James Meredith is among those named to the Alumni Hall of Fame for 2018 at the University of Mississippi by the Ole Miss Alumni Association.
He is among seven distinguished alumni receiving the award who will be honored as part of Homecoming 2018 at the university. These alumni have excelled in their careers and have done so much good for the university and their communities, according to a spokesman for the alumni association.
Meredith is remembered for his part in the desegregation of Ole Miss. He graduated from the university in 1963 with a degree in political science, then earned a master’s degree in economics from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria and a law degree from Columbia University. He has authored 27 books.
He is a resident of Jackson and continues to speak around the country. He was a guest of the Kosciusko-Attala Chapter of the National Council of Negro Women in June and was speaker at the Juneteenth Celebration in Kosciusko.
