“Assessing and evaluating,” Rob Coleman said, best describes how he has spent his time in the early weeks as CEO and administrator of Baptist Medical Center - Attala. “Getting to know the hospital staff and the community have been my priories.”
Coleman will divide his time equally between the Attala facility and Baptist Medical Center – Yazoo, where he also serves as CEO and administrator.
Coleman spent the past 15 ½ years in the healthcare industry, the last eight in administrative roles. Raised in a family involved in health care, he said he always knew he wanted to be in the medical profession. He began in the field by earning his degree in Nursing from Mississippi University for Women.
He later added a Master of Health Care Administration degree from Belhaven University.
Prior to moving into management roles, Coleman worked in emergency, critical care and other aspects of medicine.
After earning his master’s degree, he was mentored and nurtured in administration, and his still names Baptist CEO Bobbie Ware as his mentor.
“I liked it and stayed, and have been very blessed to get good nurturing,” he said, referring to the past eight years.
Before coming to Kosciusko from Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, he served as assistant vice president of clinical operations. He supervised about 1,000 employees and oversaw operations of multiple areas in the hospital, including emergency services, cardiac observation, inpatient/outpatient radiology, laboratory/pathology, and food and nutrition.
Coleman said that in his new role, he hopes to provide increased availability of surgical and specialty doctors within the local facilities at Baptist - Attala.
He and his wife, Jessica, live in Madison and have a son, Carter.
