District votes for one, then accepts resignations of both HS principals
During a special called meeting late Monday afternoon, the Attala County School Board took a series of final actions on the principalships of both of the county high schools.
As in the case of all school districts in Mississippi, it had to act on administrative rehires prior to a March 1 deadline for the next academic year.
In the case of McAdams High School, the board first voted in favor of Superintendent Bryan Weaver’s previous recommendation to rehire Principal Jackie Sandifer.
But under the following agenda item, the board accepted Sandifer’s letter of resignation, meaning that — despite the earlier vote — the district will still be seeking new leadership for the school. Sandifer’s resignation is effective June 30, 2019, according to Weaver.
Also under the same agenda item, the board voted to accept the resignation of Ethel High School Principal Patrick Boyle, who had previously been placed on administrative leave. Boyle’s resignation is effective immediately, and the school will continue under the leadership of Assistant
Principal Corey Parish, who was named Acting Principal at the time Boyle was placed on administrative leave.
Weaver said that when the board reconvenes next Monday, March 4, for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting, he expects to present the board with recommendations for the hiring of some teaching positions.
After that meeting, he said, the district will begin to advertise for all remaining open positions for the 2019-2020 academic year, including the two high school principal slots.
