A local trooper with the Mississippi Highway Patrol was transported to Baptist Medical Center Attala after a two-vehicle accident on Hwy. 19 near the Zama community Sunday afternoon.
At approximately 5:05 p.m. the trooper and a 16-year-old male from Sallis, driving a Chevrolet pickup, were both traveling north on Hwy. 19 towards Kosciusko. The trooper encountered a vehicle traveling south that was speeding and pulled to the right shoulder of the highway. When attempting to turn around to pull the speeding vehicle over, the Chevrolet truck slowed as the trooper pulled to the shoulder. The trooper, thinking the pickup was allowing him to start his turn, collided with the patrol car in the driver’s door area.
Both vehicles ended up in the roadway after the impact.
The trooper was transported to Baptist-Attala with non-life threatening injuries, while the 16-year-old driver was not injured.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
