Two members of the board of trustees of the Attala County School District will continue in their positions this year following re-election in November. They are Janice Dees, representing District Three, and Vernita Raiford, District Four. Western District Judge Rosie Sample administered the oath of office to the two at the board’s Jan. 8 meeting.
The board also named Christy Moody, president, and Willie Perteet, secretary, at the initial meeting of the year.
Clark Brady and Bill Carroll, representatives of ABM Custodian Services, spoke to the board about the services they could offer the district. The board took their proposal under advisement.
In personnel matters, Sheila Rone was named SPED teacher at Ethel High School. Justin Newell and Theresa Hull were named substitute teachers at Long Creek Elementary and Courtany Summerlin will serve in a similar role at Greenlee Elementary.
Curriculum Director Selena Schuster and Loraine Kilbert gave an update on the student mid-year benchmark.
As part the Mississippi School Board Association (MSBA) superintendent search process for the Attala County School District (ACSD), the board is requesting local media assistance with promoting an online survey to elicit parent and community feedback.
The survey can be accessed by any stakeholder in the school district and is anonymous. The results will be included in a stakeholder report given to the ACSD board members and serve as a basis for interview questions. The online survey will be open through Jan. 22.
