Kosciusko boys and girls basketball teams had a loss to Northeast Lauderdale and a victory over West Lauderdale last week, leaving the Whippets with a 2-2 record in Region 4-4A and the Lady Whippets at 1-3.BoysKosciusko was edged by Northeast Lauderdale 59-56, but rebounded with a 65-58 victory over West Lauderdale.The Northeast game was tight throughout. Bryce Benamon hit a big three-point basket for the Trojans in the final minutes.“We didn't have any energy. We didn't have any enthusiasm for playing. We were just there,” said Kosciusko Coach Eleazarus Greenleaf. “Not taking anything away from Northeast; we didn't follow the game plan.”Azikwe' Mays had 21 points, seven rebounds and two assists for Kosciusko. Antonio Harmon had 13 points and eight rebounds and JaQuan Hall logged 13 points and four boards. Benamon scored 18 for Northeast.Greenleaf held a team meeting prior to the West Lauderdale game. “We came out with energy,” he said of the later game.The Whippets were again led by their big three. Hall had 30 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, Mays 12 points, six rebounds, two steals and a block, and Harmon 11 points and seven rebounds.GirlsThe Lady Whippets followed a 66-33 loss to Northeast with a 72-35 victory over West.“After the Northeast game, we put emphasis on our defense and getting the ball up the court quicker,” said Coach Cory Guyton. “I think they responded well. I hope this will carry on through the rest of the district.”In the win over West Lauderdale, Ariel Fleming had 20 points, five rebounds and two steals, Jamilya Gray 16 points, six steals and four rebounds, and Aaliyah Amey 11 points, two rebounds and two blocks.Mariah Woods scored 12 points, grabbed six rebounds and made three steals against Northeast.In region games, the Whippets and Lady Whippets played Leake Central Tuesday and have home games with Choctaw Central Friday. Choctaw Central swept Kosciusko in earlier games, 50-49 for the boys and 68-40 for the girls.
