Both Central Holmes and Winona Christian will be represented in the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools Class 1A-2A-3A All-star football games.
Central Holmes Christian School
Making the game from Central Holmes are senior quarterback Noah Steen, senior running back/linebacker Barrett Fondren, and Jurdan Engle.
Steen was injured late in the season and required surgery and won’t be able to participate in the game.
Fondren helped the Trojans to the semifinals of the Class 3A playoffs where they lost to eventual champions Greenville Christian.
“Barrett did an awesome job for us on the defensive line this season,” Coach Womack said. “He’s an extremely hard-working kid and deserves this honor. I know he will represent Central Holmes well. Jurdan is another hard-working kid that deserves to play in this game. I hate that Noah will not get to play in the game, but I think it shows what the other coaches think about him that he was named to game.”
Womack will also be on the sidelines during the game as he will be the defensive coordinator for the Blue squad.
The Class 1A-2A-3A All-star football game will be played on Friday at 2 p.m. at Jackson Prep.
Winona Christian
The Stars landed one player on the MAIS Class 1A-2A-3A All-star football team in Landon Wilson.
Wilson was a three-year starter for the Stars at center.
“I would say that Landon was one of the really bright spots for us this season,” WCS Coach Junior Graham said. “He never played defense before and had to play over there this year and had a good year at defensive end. He was a really solid player for us. He has snapped a lot of snaps at Winona Christian.”
Graham said he didn’t see Wilson being a center to start his sophomore year.
“He didn’t start at center for us,” Graham said. “As a 10th grader, we never dreamed he would be our center. About two games into the season, he was our center and he just hung in there. This year, he had to learn how to play fatigued and I thought he did a good job of that.”
