McAdams boys’ and girls’ basketball teams were unable to renew their county rivalry with Kosciusko last week due to a Covid-related cancellation. An attempt will be made to reschedule the games.
In games that were played against Louisville, the Bulldogs lost 66-62 and the Lady Bulldogs were defeated 66-16.
The Bulldogs stayed with Louisville, a 4A school, for most of the game despite playing without two of the team's first six players. A big third quarter by Louisville and poor free throw shooting by the Bulldogs were the difference.
It was tied at 24 at halftime, before Louisville outscored McAdams 21-14 in the third quarter for a 45-38 lead. The Bulldogs scored 24 points in the final period but came up four points short.
Because his team was shorthanded, Coach Kenyon Ross used younger players and was pleased with their play.
“We had to play a lot of ninth graders,” said Ross.
Tyrick Davis led the Bulldogs with 18 points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists; Kendarrius McBeath had 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals; and Cameron Fleming scored 14 points.
The Bulldogs made only 10 of 22 free throws.
“We are not shooting the ball as well as we did last year,” Ross said. The Bulldogs are 20 percent on three-point shots and 44 percent from the line for the season.
Girls
The Lady Bulldogs scored nine points in the first quarter, but managed only seven more the rest of the way. Samaria Evans scored eight points.
Coach Ashley Brown said Louisville was a very aggressive team.
The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs played Leake Central, another 4A team, Tuesday and have home games with Philadelphia Friday.
