Mpact, a Kosciusko-based adult basketball league, will be revised this year after a 10-year hiatus.
Tony Williams is the organizer of the league. “They call me commissioner. I put it all together.”
He said the name reflects the impact the league has on the lives of participants. “We teach guys the word of God through basketball.”
The league operated from 2006 until 2013. It will resume with Sunday games at the old Kosciusko Junior High School beginning Aug. 17. There will be at least eight teams, each with six to 10 players, playing a 14-game schedule. Captains will recruit players.
The teams all have NBA names — Blazers, Grizzlies, Hornets, Lakers, Mavericks, Raptors, Suns and Warriors. Playoffs will be held in December with best-of-three series.
The only qualification for participants is that they must be at least 30. When the league previously existed, players could be as young as 12, but Williams said older players had trouble keeping up with young competitors.
Participants do not have to be from Attala County. There will be teams from Starkville, Durant, Vaiden and Carthage as well as Kosciusko.
Games will be four 10-minute quarters, a change from the previous two 20-minute halves to allow more rest time. There will be a combination of NBA, college and high school rules.
The $45 participation fee includes $25 for jerseys and $20 to pay for operational costs, including referees and the awards ceremony at the end of the season.
