Kosciusko High School will play its first four football games on the road due to a production problem for the turf at Landrum Field.
Only one home game will be lost due to the problem. Friday's jamboree will be at New Hope and the first two regular season games – Aug. 26 with Yazoo County and Sept. 2 with Winona – were scheduled as road games.
The Sept. 9 game with Lewisburg was scheduled for Kosciusko but will be played at Lewisburg. As of now, the first home game will be Sept. 16 against Choctaw County.
Athletic Director Macy Wilbanks said delivery from the manufacturer, SPRINTTURF of Daniel Island, South Carolina, will be delayed because of a production problem. It is an all-weather artificial turf.
Kosciusko scheduled a two-year home-and-home series with Lewisburg. The first game last year was at Lewisburg, and Kosciusko was supposed to get the rematch. Instead, both games will be in DeSoto County.
Wilbanks said playing the first three regular season games on the road could be difficult but added, “We have a strong group of kids who are going to work hard no matter where we are. As a community, we always travel well to support our athletic teams.”
The junior high team will also be affected. The first two games, Aug. 22 against Choctaw County and Aug. 29 against Leake Central, were scheduled as road games. A rematch with Choctaw County Sept. 12 was supposed to be at home but will also be at Choctaw County. The first home game will be Sept. 19 with Philadelphia.
