Three McAdams lifters qualified for the girls Class I powerlifting meet with their performances at the South State meet hosted by West Lincoln High School.
Shawnessey Martin won the 165-pound weight class with a total of 790 pounds for the bench press, squat and dead lift. Amber Harmon was second at 123 with 580 pounds and Kiyah Harmon second at 132 with 585 pounds.
The top three in each weight class qualify for the state meet March 31 at the Mississippi Coliseum. Class I is 1A and 2A schools.
It's almost a full month between the South State and state meets. The three girls will be be training, but coach Roy Rigsby said there is a delicate balance. Build up too much muscle and there is the danger of exceeding a lifter's weight class.
McAdams will have four lifters in the 1A boys state meet April 1.
