As a bicycle winner in the Attala County Summer Reading Program, Jaxon Smith went home with a challenge. He must learn to ride it.
The six-year-old son of Billy and Amberly Smith of the Center Community, said he has a bicycle with training wheels, but with his win he will graduate to the big bike. He will be a first grader at Greenlee Elementary School when classes begin in August.
Mackenzie Bain was the other bicycle winner in the give-away during the final program Thursday afternoon at the Attala County Coliseum.
“I have a bike, but I am glad I won. I needed a new one,” said Mackenzie. The eight-year-old is the daughter of Randy and Rebecca Bain. She will enter third grade at Middle Elementary School in Kosciusko.
Top readers in three age categories were given certificates. They were Katherina Weatherby, 9-11 age group, 119 books; 3-5 year-old, John Summers, 138 books; and Hadleigh Hawkins, 6-8 age group, 216 books.
With the help of Bully, names were drawn for t-shirts, books, umbrellas, and numerous other prizes.
Throughout the afternoon jumper houses, jumper slides and prize walks offered entertainment.
Friends of the Library and members of the Kosciusko Junior Auxiliary assisted in handing out prizes, serving popcorn and lemonade.
