The Friends of the Attala County Library has purchased colorful, child-friendly furniture for the Children's Area of the library.
The arrival of the new furniture last week is in time for children to begin enjoying during the activities of National Library Week April 9-15. Children may get their first library card when they are five years old and have complete kindergarten. Parents are encouraged to bring their children with their social security cards to register for a free card.
Attala County Library
Kicking off library week is an appreciation luncheon on Monday, April 10, honoring Attala County and City of Kosciusko officials.
Theme for the week is “Libraries Transform,” celebrating the nation’s libraries and library workers for transforming lives through free access to technology, information literacy, varied collections and opportunities for community enjoyment.
On Tuesday, April 11, Clinton Bagley historian with the Missisisppi Archives and History, will present a program at noon on “Natchez: Legacies and Truths Along the Mississippi River.”
Activities of Wednesday, April 12, will begin with a bake sale and book sale arranged by Friends of the Library. The sales will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the library garage.
Also on Wednesday, Frances Woodruff of Louisville will present a program on Mississippi History at noon in the library meeting room. She is a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and is involved in genealogy research.
A book and bake sale will be held again, at 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday. Kosciusko native and history buff Charles Stewart of Brandon will speak to library patrons at noon Thursday. His topic is The Path to Pearl Harbor. He is a former teacher and is retired from the Social Security Adminisrtration.
The library will be closed on Good Friday.
Durant Public Library
In Durant, Friends of the Library will conduct its quarterly book sale. On Monday, Shellie Zeiglar, Services Director with the Mississippi Library Commission, will give a talk on materials available for the elderly and blind at 2 p.m.
Wednesday activities will be devoted to story time and craft time for children at 10 a.m. and for teens at 3 p.m. with “Teen Bingo and Book Review.”
Final program of the week on Thursday at 2 p.m. will be given by Home Economist Tara Howell who will present “Couponing Tips.”
Participants during the week may register daily for door prizes.
West Public Library
In West, Friends of the Library will hold a book sale at the library Monday through Friday from noon until 4 p.m. each day.
Bingo will be featured Tuesday, April 11, at 1:30 p.m. Books and prizes will be awarded to winners.
On Thursday, April 13, Friends of the Library will hold a bake sale at 8:30 a.m.
