A hint of the past was seen Saturday at the French Camp annual Frontier Day held in the historic area of the town. The event, planned to be held annually on the second Saturday in May, was the first under the sponsorship of the French Camp Downtown Preservation Committee.
Several re-enactments depicting life in frontier days, costumes reminiscent of the style of dress during pioneer times were worn by some in contrast to modern day life.
Jamie Brown and Isaac Brown with The Red Deer Training Co. of New Albany and Davy Crockett re-enactments were presented throughout the day. Bluegrass music was headlined by the Alan Sibley Band. Choctaw Dancers from Philadelphia performed. Pottery making and blacksmithing demonstrations were held in facilities in the historic district.
Competitions were held in crosscut saw and skillet throwing contest.
Other activities included a car show, vendors selling jewelry, handcrafted items, a variety of food, a petting zoo, pony rides, carriage rides and inflatables for the enjoyment of the children.
