Nativity scenes depicting the birth of the Christ Child are among prominent decorations of the Christmas season.
An array of the scenes focusing on the birth of Jesus in a stable in the Town of Bethlehem, are on display in the Welcome Center at First Baptist Church. These scenes dominate decorated trees, twinkling lights, candles, poinsettias and other seasonal décor.
Several years ago the congregation of First Baptist was invited to share their Nativity sets and the event has become an annual event.
There is often a story about where the scene was bought, a keepsake of a relative or remembrances of loved ones.
Ina Rigby is credited with coordinating the original display, and with the help of a committee, the scenes were first put in place in 2009. Through the years she has shared scenes from her personal collection in the display. Each year she continues to spearhead the decoration of the Visitor Center with the Nativity sets.
Banners in keeping with the Christmas season line the north entrance to the Welcome Center. A tall tree stands just inside the door decorated with ornaments that have been collected and added through the years.
“Our goal from the beginning is to bring glory to God,” said Mrs. Rigby.
Visitors are invited to view the scenes.
