The Kosciusko Board of Trustees received a progress update for the launch of the school district pre-kindergarten classes at its meeting Monday night.
The district approved the addition of the classes for children who must turn four by September 1 at its meeting last month. As of Monday night, the district has received 74 requests to be part of the Pre-K program, according to district superintendent Gina Smith.
“There has been tremendous interest in the program,” Smith said. “I do not believe that we will have any problem filling the 140 slots allotted for the program and could have a lengthy waiting list.”
The district is still working on the design schematics of the classroom units with the units to be installed and ready by the first week of August.
Also approved by the board includes permission for the district to advertise for at least six new pre-k teachers and assistant teachers. One of the teachers for the program is already on staff.
In other business the board:
• approved a principal salary schedule for new employees;
• approved a job description for the district assistant principals;
• accepted resignations from Seth Wessner, Teresa Armstrong, Kayce King Clark, Jonathan Carnes, Stanley Murphy, Courtney McAdams, Martina Peteet and Leigh Rodgers;
• approved payment of teachers for after school tutorial;
• approved paying retirees for sick days not used;
• hired Sherry Foster as librarian for Kosciusko Junior High.
