Raven Pernell and Presley Fulgham were medal winners for Kosciusko at the girls 4A state track meet.
Pernell, a junior, won a silver medal as runnerup in the girls long jump with a leap of 17 feet six inches. Heidi Hudson of Sumrall was the event winner at 20 feet and a quarter inch. Pernell also finished fifth in the 200 in a time of 26.44. The event was won by McComb freshman Sa'Riah Magee (25.29).
Fulgham, a senior, won bronze for third place in the girls pole vault. Pontotoc junior Ava Robbins was the winner, clearing 9 feet 9 inches. Fulgham and Raymond junior Madyson McGill both did nine feet, but McGill was second for the silver medal because she cleared the height on her second attempt, Fulgham on her third attempt.
Fulgham was the two-time defending champion in the pole vault.
The performances by Pernell and Fulgham netted Kosciusko 18 points, tied with Quitman and Moss Point for 12th in 4A. Columbia was the 4A winner with 77 points, 10 more than defending champion Pontotoc.
Senior Kantavious Brown was the only Kosciusko boy to qualify for the state meet. He was eighth in the high jump (5-8).
The 6A, 4A and 2A meets were held Saturday at the Woody Barnett Track & Field Complex in Pearl. Other team winners were Pearl boys 6A, Clinton girls in 6A, Senatobia boys in 4A, Velma Jackson boys in 2A and Charleston girls in 2A. It was the 10th consecutive championship for Clinton girls and the 60th championship overall for Pearl boys and girls in track and cross country.
Four meet records were set, all in field events. In addition to her long jump victory, Hudson set the girls high jump record with a leap of six feet.
Senior John Kendricks of Oxford set the boys pole vault record at 17 feet, Kennedy Stringfellow of Brandon the boys long jump record (25-4½) and Julie Seagroves of Biloxi the girls pole vault record (13-2).
The 1A-3A-5A meet was held Wednesday, with McAdams, Ethel and French Camp competing in 1A. The meet was postponed from last Friday by rain.
