Women in Kosciusko history

In 1873, before women were admitted to University of Mississippi, there were three young ladies from Kosciusko attending Oxford Female Institute. The school, also known as the Lewis School, was established before the Civil War and was eventually absorbed by the University of Mississippi.

Remembering the Clyde Beatty Circus

Remembering 'Kosciusko Pete'

Sometimes it is the ordinary person who makes a small town memorable. Every town has at least one. Many years ago, Paul Harvey wrote about ours; his name was Warren G, “Kosciusko Pete” Murphy, born December 27, 1920, died December 8, 1965. Harvey described Pete as having a ruddy, unshaven face and watery eyes.
