Kosciusko boys finished sixth out of 12 teams at a cross country meet at Sebastopol.
Jorge Orduna led the Whippets, finishing seventh out of 132 runners with a time of 17:31.5 for 2.9 miles. The race was shortened from the usual 5,000 meters (3.1 miles).
“I don't know why they cut it short,” Kosciusko Coach Greg Cooper said.
Other Kosciusko runners – Daniel Van 29th, Perry Lewis 45th, Cole Wilson 46th, Lem Whitcomb 50th, Cooper Sparks 57th, Grayson Blaylock 60th, Christian Covarrubias 67th, Tuff Shaw 69th and Rodrigo Arvizu 70th.
Wilson returned to completion after being sidelined with a broken arm. “He had a good run without really training,” Cooper said.
Colin Brannon of Madison Central was the individual winner and Newton County took first in the team competition.
Emma Rhodes, Kosciusko's only female competitor, was 15th in 23:05.3. French Camp dominated with the top four and seven of the top eight.
Kosciusko was scheduled to run at Kirk Academy Monday but had to drop out because there were home school teams in the competition. MHSAA rules do not allow teams to compete against home schools. The Sebastopol meet was added as a substitute.
Kosciusko will run in a meet at Collinsville Thursday. The meet was originally scheduled for Sept. 11 but postponed due to a conflict regarding the course.
