Area football fans wishing to see the Attala County Super Bowl will have to wait another year. Last week's McAdams-Ethel game was canceled because McAdams is quarantined.
McAdams Coach Kenneth Nelson feels bad that the game could not be played.
“But I feel that it was necessary,” he said.
His players were disappointed, too.
“But once we explained that safety is the main thing, and we are looking out for the safety of the kids, they understood. I told them that life always brings about unexpected things,” the coach said he told his players.
Per MHSAA rules, McAdams has to forfeit the Ethel game, as well as the matchup against St. Andrew's that was scheduled for Friday.
If all goes well, the Bulldogs will be able to resume play Sept. 24 with a home game against Coldwater. That is the first Region 2-1A game and it is scheduled for one day after the team is permitted to resume practice.
Nelson met with his players last week and gave them instructions on how to work out on their own.
Volleyball
The Lady Bulldogs chances of making the MHSAA playoffs took a severe blow due to the quarantine. McAdams will forfeit matches against Holmes County Central, Ethel, Mississippi School for the Deaf and Sebastopol.
McAdams, MSD and Sebastopol are the teams in Region 6-1A and the top two will qualify for the MHSAA playoffs. But with the forfeits and a loss to Sebastopol last week, the Lady Bulldogs are 0-3, with only a Sept. 30 home match with MSD left.
Coach Ashley Brown said her players were upset when told of the quarantine.
“They were very excited about playing this year,” said Brown. “It has nothing to do with volleyball. They're part of the student body so they have to abide by the rules.”
Sebastopol defeated McAdams 25-18, 25-11, 25-15.
“We didn't play our best,” Brown said before noting one bright spot — the play of Jada Bayne.
“She responded in a positive way,” said the coach. “She tried to motivate everyone.”
The next scheduled match is at Winona on Sept. 28.
