French Camp Academy will try to get back on the football field this week after quarantining last week due to a COVID outbreak at the school.
The Panthers were forced to cancel their season opener with Winona Christian last week. Coach Nathan Wright said the Panthers would resume practice on Tuesday and make a determination on this week’s home game with Eupora after practice.
“I told their coach after we practice on Tuesday that I would call him and would know more. I’ll see who shows up and who we’ve got. I’ll know pretty clearly after practice tomorrow if we can play or not. We may or may not have everybody. Hopefully, we have everybody back and can try to play a game on Friday.”
Wright said during the quarantine, he has urged his players to stay in shape and sent them things to work on.
“We are planning on a full game and I don’t know what will happen there,” Wright said “I tried to tell them to stay in shape and do what they could at home and I sent them some stuff to study, so maybe we will be mentally sharp. It’s hard to lay out a whole week and come back.”
Wright said he would not look at any film on Eupora but would work on getting his team ready for this week’s game.
“We are just going to show up and play and see what we can do,” Wright said. “We don’t have any film to exchange. Hopefully we will be somewhat win the right positions. For us, we just need to get on the field. We need to see where we are at. Our kids need to see where they are at. We have been telling some of them that they need to be more physical but until they line up against somebody else and get manhandled, they won’t really understand what we have been telling them. We just have to get our feet wet at this point.”
