McAdams football coach Kenneth Nelson was impressed with what he saw of Simmons on film. Even more so when he saw them up close in a 58-0 victory over the Bulldogs.
“They are even better in person,” he said, and predicted a 1A state championship for the Blue Devils.
Nelson said his team never quit.
“The kids played with toughness. They knew it would be a tough game, but they didn't back down. They didn't quit. They played as hard as they could,” he said.
The coach said sophomore running back Jarmarion Thompson ran hard and sophomore linebacker Ziyon Christian played well.
McAdams is 1-5 overall and 1-2 in Region 3-1A. The Bulldogs have a road game Friday with Coffeeville that is pretty much a must win if McAdams hopes to make the 1A playoffs. Coffeeville is 2-4 and 2-2 in region play and is coming off a 28-0 victory over Coldwater.
“They have a resilient team. They are not going to stop playing hard. They have some beef up front,” Nelson said of Coffeeville.
3-1A is probably the state’s strongest 1A region. Simmons is top ranked, McEvans is third and South Delta, which defeated McAdams, fifth.
After Coffeeville, the Bulldogs will conclude the regular season with a home game Oct. 29 against West Tallahatcie and a road game November 4 at McEvans.
