The week was going just fine for Central Holmes Football Coach Mitch Womack until last Thursday.
Because of COVID, Central Holmes shut the school down for five days and they are not returning until Wednesday.
“The week was going fine until we shut down on Thursday,” Womack said. “We aren’t opening back up until Wednesday. We can’t have practice or do anything school related. We have two kids out with COVID, so we will have to adjust some positions. We will have to move some kids around and change some positions. We talked about it as coaches and feel like we have a good plan.”
Womack said the Trojans are still on schedule to play Clinton Christian on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.
“We will learn about the character of our team this week,” Womack said. “Are we going to panic or are we going to buckle down and get after it? We will get to practice on Wednesday and Thursday and play on Friday. So with that little time, we are going to be pretty bland and just do what we do every day.”
Womack said Clinton Christian played in a jamboree on Friday but after being quarantined, he decided not to attend.
“Since we have such a short amount of time, we are going to have to spend a lot of time on us,” Womack said. “We will have to make some adjustments on the fly. Our kids are just excited to get the opportunity to play. We are going to play as hard as we can and hope everything goes our way, and we get some breaks. We are just going to do what we do and use it as a learning tool. Again, I’m just worried about it at this point.”
The Trojans will host the Warriors on Friday to open off the season. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
