At the recent Oct. 7 aldermen meeting, the board approved fire department promotions, approved street closures, and opened up pavilion rentals.
Fire department promotions
Donald Martin was promoted to Captain, and Scott Burns was promoted to Lieutenant. These changes follow the resignation of Captain Jake Cummins, which was accepted at a prior aldermen meeting. The board approved Cummins’s request to stay aboard as a volunteer fireman.
Street closures
The board approved closing the square at 6 p.m. on Oct. 21 at the request of Kosciusko School District to hold the annual homecoming parade. They also approved closing Jefferson Street for a fall festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 23. The festival will run from the corner of Pickle’s Drug Store to the KAP office and the parking lot behind Renasant Bank. The pocket park will also be used. Dr. Martin Luther King Drive also got early approval for closure for an MLK Day parade on Jan. 17, 2022, at the request of Charlotte Miller.
Pavilion rentals
The board decided to open pavilion rentals back up at local parks after consideration. In August, pavilion rentals were put on hold due to a surge in COVID-19. Mayor Tim Kyle said in the meeting that mask and distancing requirements will be left to the discretion of the renter.
Miscellaneous
The board adopted the District 3 hazard mitigation plan and updated a flood damage prevention ordinance in order to be compliant with MEMA and FEMA.
