Derrik Boland has resigned as Kosciusko High School's head baseball coach.
“I felt like it’s time for a change for me and my family. I loved my time there. I loved the kids. I’m going to miss the kids,” Boland said when reached by The Star-Herald late Tuesday afternoon. “I am going to continue coaching. I’m trying to figure that part out right now. There are some options. I’m trying to sort through those options and get an idea of what’s best for us.”
The school will go through the normal procedure for finding a replacement, Athletic Director Macy Wilbanks said.
“We'll post the job. We'll have an appropriate number to interview. We will have a committee to review them. Then we will have our coach,” she told The Star-Herald Tuesday.
The makeup of the committee has not been determined. The opening has been posted on the school system's website and will be posted on the MHSAA website, as well, according to the athletic director.
There is no timetable for finding a replacement.
“As soon as possible,” Wilbanks said. “We just want to find the best possible coach we can find.”
Boland was Kosciusko’s head baseball coach for two seasons. The Whippets won Region 4-4A in 2019 and were second this year. There were no region standings last year due to the pandemic.
This year's team finished 14-11 with a victory over North Pontotoc and a loss to Mooreville in the playoffs.
