Kosciusko volleyball moved closer to the Region 4-4A championship with 3-0 victories over Louisville and Yazoo County.
The Lady Whippets are 4-0 in the four-team region with two victories over Louisville and one each against Yazoo County and Greenwood, all in straight sets. Scores last week were 25-20, 25-14, 25-13 against Louisville and 25-7, 25-13, 25-8 against Yazoo County.
“Against Louisville, we started out a little slow,” said interim coach Cory Guyton. “Once they got settled down, they did well.”
The Lady Whippets were led by the serving of Makynlee Dickerson and Lizzie Kate Jones. Dickerson had 12 aces in each match, Jones 10 against Louisville and nine against Yazoo County. Mary Kimbell Price had seven aces against Yazoo County and Kaitlyn Broyles two kills against Louisville.
Guyton said the team has been playing well, but he would like to see better communications, offensively and defensively.
“If we can open up the communications channel, I think we will be a lot better,” he said.
Kosciusko can wrap up the region title Thursday with a match at Greenwood. Greenwood has been quarantined but has been cleared to play. The final region match is scheduled for September 30 at Yazoo County.
The MHSAA playoffs are scheduled to begin Oct. 12. If Kosciusko wins 4-4A, the Lady Whippets will host the runner-up from 2-4A, either Caledonia or Pontotoc.
