In First Chronicles 12 there is a listing of men equipped for war in their support of making David king over all Israel. In that listing I call your attention to what is said of the sons of Issachar: “And of the sons of Issachar, men who understood the times, with knowledge of what Israel should do….” In that day it was important to have men who understood the times. And it surely is just as important for us today. In this article I want to share some comments from a man named Richard Land. He is a past President of the “Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission.”
He states that morals begin at home with the family, "adults continue to convince themselves that they have the right to walk out on their promises and obligations to their spouses and their children in search of their own self-fulfillment .”
‘When adults shirk their responsibilities as a husband, wife, father and mother, the effects seep into society.”
Government spends millions of dollars to ad “…there is no substitution for a family with a wedded father and mother.”
We’re seriously broken and it’s getting worse and we’re reaching a crisis point where we’re either going to restore traditional values…or we’re going to see society denigrate.”
I think Land is right on target with his assessment of our society. To his comments I add one more from John Gardner, deceased now, but a former resident of Kosciusko and former elder of the S. Huntington church of Christ: “Although they have been slowly eroding for decades, the structures of marriage and family as God put then in place are beginning to crack and crumble in America as never before.”
May our God bless our country with men who understand the times and with knowledge of what America needs to do! God’s word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psa. 119:105). Let’s let it shine!
