With only 14 players, McAdams lost to West Tallahatchie 54-0, but coach Roy Rigsby praised the effort and said better times lie ahead for the Bulldogs.
“I'm so proud of my guys. When you have a team with ninth and tenth graders and you don't have but 14 kids, you could easily quit. They were outmanned, everybody knows it. But they fought until the end and they had fun.”
Rigsby said two-way lineman Quevon Roby and receiver Jamar Teague played well.
“The corps group has determination. That's always a vital thing in football. But you also need experience. You also need numbers. That's something we believe we will have going forward into next year.”
The Bulldogs are 1-9, which include two forfeits when there were not enough players to field a team.
It won't get any easier when the season ends with a home game Thursday against McEvans, which is 9-1. The only loss was 12-8 against Humphreys County, a 3A team. The Hawks are third-ranked in the state among 1A teams according to the website MaxPreps, trailing defending state champion Bay Springs and unbeaten Biggersville.
McEvans has clinched the championship of Region 1-2A with a 6-0 record, having outscored the opposition 252-33, including a 40-6 win over West Tallahatchie. McAdams is 1-5 in region play that includes the two forfeits, with a 30-18 victory over Coldwater.
