A block in the back penalty resulted in McAdams falling to Leake County 6-0 in a scrimmage as the Bulldogs prepared for Friday’s season opener at Sebastopol. The penalty wiped out a TD run by Jamar Teague.
Coach Roy Rigsby said his quarterbacks, Teague and Jay Harmon, played well, but improvement is needed on the offensive line.
Overall, Rigsby said the defense played well, especially linebacker Ed Stewart. “He showed a lot of leadership and a lot of grit.”
Sebastopol went 7-5 last year and lost to Lumberton in the opening round of the 1A layoffs. “They're a well-coach, aggressive team,” Rigby said. “They have a dual threat quarterback (Ma'karious Michaels) and a big offensive line.”
Michaels is joined in the backfield by fellow senior David Williams. The two combined to average more than 200 yards a game on the ground last year. Michaels scored 18 touchdowns and Williams 14.
Rigsby planned to stress fundamentals and technique in practice this week.
